Recently, there has been a ton of debates about the utilization of the "great houses". More specifically, in regard to the passage, the writer puts forth the idea that there are three possible explanations for their uses. In the listening, the lecturer is quick to point out that there are some severe flaws in the author's clams. In fact, the professor believes that these reasons are not convincing, and he addresses in detail, the problem with each point made in the reading.

First of all, the author states that these houses probably were residential because of their architecture. Some professionals in the same field, however, stand in firm opposition to this claim. In the lecture, for instance, the speaker believes that although their outer shape might resemble residential houses, looking in their inside casts doubts about if anybody could live there. There should be plenty of fireplaces for people to use them for cooking. However, there are just a few of them in a house with the capacity to hold a hundred people who made this place inhabitable.

One group of scholars, represented by the writer, think they could be used for storing food and grains such as maze. Not all experts in the field believe this is accurate. Again, the professor mainly addresses this point when he states that this theory is unsupported by evidence. The excavations do not show noticeable traces of maze or even containers for the storage of maze.

Finally, the author wraps this argument by positing that another theory about the houses is that they were used for special ceremonies. Not surprisingly, the professor takes issue with this claim by contending that this theory is not also supported by evidence. This is because lots of other materials were found in the same place as broken pots such as stones, sand, and other construction materials. It is believed that it was a place for people to throw out their trashes.

In conclusion, both the writer and lecturer hold conflicting views about the utilization of great houses.
