The reading discusses the possible sources of an strange sound detected by submarines during their pass in North Atlantic and arctic ocean. However, the professor in the lecture completely disagrees with these assumptions and she gives three reasons to refute each of the mentioned theories in the reading.
First, the article talks about Orca male and female whales that are living in that area and relates the detected sound to conversations that these animals could have with each other. But, she believes that this hypothesis can not be true, since these Orca whales mostly swim near the surface of oceanic water. So, they can not be heard by submarines in deeper section of water. Also, their presence must have been revealed by sonar in the surface as they pass any of the submarines.
Second, the passage mentions the giant squids and attributes the sounds to these species which are enormous invertebrates live deep in the ocean. In contrast, professor indicates that these noises can not be originated from these animals, because the sounds started in 1960 and continued until 1980. But, after this date these noises stopped suddenly while the squids still keep on living in this habitat even until today. Thus, these sounds could not be come from these creatures, since they were collected just in that short period.
Third, the reading regards that they might be came or sent by other submarines from other countries which used to patrol in that region occasionally. On the other hand, she disputes about this intonation and illustrates that these sounds were known to came from objects that change their direction so quickly. In addition, there were no engine sounds heard by their equipment. So, they cannot be alien submarines logically, because this kind of vehicle with so little engine noise have not even invented now.
