summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they challenge the points that Peary had been reached the North Pole mentioned in the reading passage
In the reading passage, the author discusses that three arguments provide strong support for the truth of Peary's claim that he had reached the North Pole, while the lecture claims that what the passage state is not unconvincing and disputes those ideas presented in the passage with several proofs.
Firstlt, according to the reading passage, it is suggested that the National Geographic Society throughout an investigation concluded that Peary had indeed reached the North Pole. In contrast, the professor argues in the lecture that what the committee said is not objective since the committee was composed of Peary's close friend who had funded this trip. Moreover, the investigation lasted only two days so that it did not examine Peary exactly. Therefore, the results from committess are biased and not trustworthy.
In addition, the statement in the reading material indicates that a British explorer named Avery reached the North Pole in 37 days, which suggests that Peary's claim are not impossible and he mignt have been tellling the truth. On the contrary, the professor points out that the Avery's expedition is different from the Peary's. Avery had much less weight and great weather condition, both of that support the Avery that had reached the pole within 37 days. But Peary might not have a good fortune like Avery.
Finally, the author of the reading claims that some photographs taken by Peary that support his claim to have arrived the North Pole due to the calculated Sun's poistion by measuring the shadows in the photos is in accordance with the Sun's position as it was supposed to have been on that day. However, the speaker argues that the shadows cannot be used to give a precis calculation of the Sun's poistion since the primitive camera Peary used could only take fuzzy, slightly unfocused photos and these photos looked blurred and faded overtime. Hence, these photographs cannot support the Peary's claim.
