In contrast, the professor argues in the lecture that most franchising companies only assign specific goods and services to the bussiness owner, both those suppliers are pretty expensive and the owner do not have a right to choose other cheaper suppliers.
In addition, the statment in the reading material indicates that a advantage of a franchise is that it can save a new business a lot of money on advertising. On the contrary, the professor points out that the new business needs to pay six percent of the total income to pay for the fee of advertisement, which is not a small number of money. Another fact is that the company will not advertise their product, what they have to do is expand their own brand and make more money. Therefore, the new business may not get a lot of profits from advertisements than individual business.
Finally, the author of the reading claims that a franchise offers more security han strating an independent business because the failure rate for starting franchises is much lower than starting independent businesses. However, the speaker raise a thrid solution. People could buy some businesses from previous independent owner. This is because some studies has proved that buying a business from previous owner is more likely to succeed than starting a franchise during the four years of business.
