Essay topics:

Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage.

In regard to the issue of if bees exist on Earth 200 million years ago. The reading passage points out that there are some skeptics about the argument that bees exist 200 million years ago. Whereas, the writer and the lecturer are apparently sheer contradictory to each other.

Firstly, according to the author, there are no fossils of bees remain before 200 million years, and the earliest preserved body of a bee is 100 million years old. The speaker, however, disclaims the point of view and declares that the reason why people cannot find the fossil of a bee in that period is that the bees were preserved by sticky liquid produced by certain kinds of trees, and such trees became common after that period. Thus, it does not mean the bees did not exist at that time.

Secondly, the reading holds that there is no flowering plant 200 million years ago and modern bees are fed by flowering plants, as the relationship between bees and flowering plants, it is unlikely bees existed at that time. By contrast, the professor disproves the claim of the reading, demonstrating that early bees may be fed by non-flowering plants, and after flowering plans evolved, the bees may adapt them. Therefore, the bees and flowering plants have a new relationship.

Finally, the article asserts that nest chambers made by modern bees and the fossilized structures are similar but different because the fossilized chambers lack the caps that have a spiral pattern. On the other hand, the listening maintains an opposite opinion that there is chemical evidence that support that early bees produced chambers since modern bees protect their nest chambers by using waterproofing substance and the fossilized chambers had the same material that is used by modern bees.
