First of all, The lecturer is not convinced with the idea that relocating the Torreya plants in a microclimate having wetness or dampness and a cool environment in Florida would affect the growth of Torreya trees. This is because of the fact that the wetlands in Florida are drained, along with the change in climate of a larger area. The reason for the change maybe global warming and due to this alteration, the microclimate would not possess the same favourable characteristics it did before.
Secondly, an assistive migration of Torreya seeds far into the North where the temperature is cooler, is not best suited. To elaborate on this point, the lecturer gives an example of the Black locus tree/plant, which was relocated to the Northern area for a new surplus environment, causing a rapid growth of the trees. The quick spreading of the trees, dominated the existing endangered flora and fauna in that area leading to their extinction.
Lastly, the option of preserving the seeds and saplings in research centres for a monitored growth will not be able to suffice the purpose of protecting the species while conducting a research, since it will not be able to withstand the capacity.
According to the lecturer, the reasearch centres do not have the capacity to resist the diseases that can affect the saplings. The size and proportion for administrating the plants is not enough in comparison to the expanse of the tree growth.
