Summarize the points made in the lecture you just heard, explaining how they cast doubt on points made in the reading. In 1939, David O Selznick produced a film of Margaret Mitchell’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel, Gone with the Wind. The movie proved to

The article states that the reputation of a movie 'Gone with the Wind' has fallen in many critical circles. The author provides two supporting reasons. The lecturer refutes this reasons and provides supporting reasons.

The reading claims that the story of the film 'Gone with the Wind' is based on Southern family in the American Civil war. He says that the main character in the film was a slave and he fought to preserve the rights on own and to lessen the rights for African Americans. The author refers this period as a golden age. However, the lecturer refutes this point by stating that the Civil war was a protected foolish war. According to him, the film was huge, historical, romance, feminist, most viewed film and it was racist, totally overstated. He says that before the war the limited opportunities were available for women but after the war, the situation was better than previous.

The author states that to deliver a hysterical performance the main character hit the female character. According to the author, this was the embarrassment seeing the performance and made us a realization about the early days of Hollywood films. The lecturer opposes this claim by explaining that the Mammy who performed the maid role of Scarlett (the main character) got awarded as a best supporting actress. The lecturer says about Butterfly McQueen's performance that she did more than the instructions given to her and beyond the expectations. She showed that she was disdain of being a slave. The lecturer suggests that we should appreciate the film because this film encouraged the black actors and provided job opportunities.

In conclusion, the lecturer casts doubt on all the claims and theories presented in the reading.
