The reading claims that salvage logging is beneficial both to a damaged forest and to the economy. The professor disagrees with this claim by saying that it may appear that it is recovering the forest but in fact, it makes serious longer-term damages and refutes each point that the reading makes.
First, the reading states that if the trees are not removed after a devastating fire, forests will be choked with dead trees. The professor refutes this statement by saying that cleaning the trees from the jungle will not result in making too much space for other trees to grow. Moreover, he explains that if the trees remain there, they will decompose there and transform the soil of the environment to an enrich and nutrient soil, which is beneficiary for the plants to grow in this ground.
Second, the article claims that decaying wood will produce many insects, which can damage live and healthy spruce trees. The professor agrees that decaying wood will increase the number of insects. However, he does not agree with the damage is caused by bark beetle because this creature does not damage the trees. She explains that not salvaging trees will result in more birds and other insects, and it will enhance the life quality of the forest.
Finally, the reading states that the salvaging has economic benefits and will makes jobs. The professor refutes the statement by saying that the beneficial situation will not last much longer. The professor also illustrates that for salvaging, local residents cannot do so much work because they need expansive machines and vehicles for example helicopters to be able to lift heavy logging.
