The first point the professor uses to cast doubt on the reading is that people in America do not treat advertisements the same, and they have a lot of confidence in the certification agency's trustworthiness, which differs from the statement in the reading is that consumers in the USA will not pay attention to labels since they have already been exposed to a huge amount of advertisements so that they do not place much trust in those advertisements.
Another evidence the speaker adopts to contradict the passage is that if the price differential between similar products is small, Americans will be willing to buy Eco-friendly wood. However, the reading states that ecologically friendly wood is more expensive than uncertificated wood since the company demands to spend extra money on certification agencies, and most companies are more likely to prefer to keep the price low.
In conclusion, the point made in the reading contrasts with what is presented in the reading. As the professor claim, companies do not ought to be aware of foreign consumers instead of paying attention to foreign competitors, and if they do not adjust their market strategy to provide Eco-friendly certification on their product, the foreign companies will crowd into the USA market and took away the local manufacturers' customers, whereas the reading material holds that pursuing certification will only make sense if the manufacturer provides their products mostly for international market demands, yet businesses in America sell most of their wood in the USA.
