TPO-03 - Integrated Writing Task Rembrandt is the most famous of the seventeenth-century Dutch painters. However, there are doubts whether some paintings attributed to Rembrandt were actually painted by him. One such painting is known as attributed to Rem

One of the paintings attributed to Rembrandt, a Dutch painter, is conceived not to be his original work. In other words, it seems that the portrait is not painted by Rembrandt for three reasons explained in the passage which are explained as follows:
The first reason is that the woman in the painting has dressed in an inconsistent manner. She has worn a white linen cap with a fur collar. While the former is a kind of dressed only worn by servants, the latter is a luxurious one that no servant could afford to wear. However, according to the lecture, the fur collar is not part of the woman’s dress in the original painting and it is added to the painting hundred years after the original painting has been painted.
The second reason is that there is an inconsistency in how the light and shadow are painted. The face of the woman is illuminated by the light reflected from her fur collar, while her collar is black and absorbs the light rather than reflecting light. on the contrary, the lecturer states that the collar has a light color in the original painting which reflects the light.
The third reason is that the painting is painted on a panel consists of several pieces of wood glued together, which is not a common panel used in Rembrandt’s paintings. According to the lecture, the original painting is painted on a single piece of wood made up of a tree used for another painting by Rembrandt.
To conclude, the reading explains three reasons to show that the painting is not Rembrandt’s work. However, the lecture challenges the points made in the passage by clarifying the features of Rembrandt’s original work.
