TPO-03 - Integrated Writing Task Rembrandt is the most famous of the seventeenth-century Dutch painters. However, there are doubts whether some paintings attributed to Rembrandt were actually painted by him. One such painting is known as attributed to Rem

The article states that there is doubts that whether some paintings attributed to Rambrandt were actually painted by him and one of them is a portrait of a woman's face. The reading provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that after a long examination it has been concluded that it is indeed the Rambrandt's work and refutes each of the author's reasons.

First, the reading states that there is something inconsistent about the way the woman in the portrait is dressed. The professor refutes this point by stating that in fact it was not a part of original painting. The fore-color was painted over the top of the painting one hundred years after the main painting was made. Someone probably wanted to increase the value of painting.

Second, the article claims that in this work light and shadow do not fit together. However, the professor contends that in the original painting woman is wearing a simple light colored dress. The light color reflects light that illuminates part of the woman's face. That's why the woman's face is not in partial shadow.

Third, the reading avers that examination of the back of the painting reveals that it was painted on a panel made of several pieces of wood glued together. The lecture opposes this point by saying that the painting has been enlarged by pieces of wood on the top to make the painting greater and more valuable. So many pieces of original wooden panel are from the very same tree that Rambrandt used for his another painting.
