TPO-03 - Integrated Writing Task Rembrandt is the most famous of the seventeenth-century Dutch painters. However, there are doubts whether some paintings attributed to Rembrandt were actually painted by him. One such painting is known as attributed to Rem

The reading and the lecture are both about a painting of a woman in white a cap. The author of the reading believes that this painting is not a work by Rembrandt, which was the most famous painter of the seventeenth century. The lecture casts doubt on the claims made in the article. He states that it was concluded that this painting is actually done by Rembrandt.

First of all, the author points out the women in the painting is wearing a linen cap and a luxurious fur collar, two clothing items that inconsistent each other and Rembrandt would not make this mistake. This point is challenged by the lecturer. He says that evidence shows that the fur was painted over to the painting long time after, mainly to make the painting look more expensive.

Secondly, the author contends that the shadows and the light were used incorrectly and that is misleading as Rembrandt was a master of these two aspects. The lecturer rebuts this argument. He states that in the original painting the light and the shadows were natural and correct. The added fur made them look improper.

Finally, the author states that the Rembrandt never used a panel with several wood pieces as this painting has. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that the wood pieces were added later to make the painting look valuable. He also notes that the used wood is from the same tree that was used to make a panel for his self-portrait.
In conclusion, the lecturer effectively casts doubt on all the claims presented in the reading.
