TPO-03 - Integrated Writing Task Rembrandt is the most famous of the seventeenth-century Dutch painters. However, there are doubts whether some paintings attributed to Rembrandt were actually painted by him. One such painting is known as attributed to Rembrandt.

The passage and lecture are both about Rembrandt’s work which is the portrait of an elderly woman in a white bonnet. The passage illustrates some points that it’s not his genuine work, while the lecture opposes the passage’s points to prove and provide with some explanation to show that the portrait is really his work.

Firstly, The passage explains the first mistake that appears in the portrait which is a woman’s dress like a fur collar. It does not go with her and It is not a thing that her career couldn’t afford. And He was well known for his attention to clothing detail, But the lecture refutes by analyzing and an x-ray of this portrait show that fur collar had been added before the painting was made for a hundred year by someone. It is probably because of increasing its value for sale.

Secondly, the article shows the second error which is light and shadow of this painting. Her face should be reflected with partial shadow due to having on dark fur collar which would rather absorb the light than reflect. While the lecture opposes that his work was based on reality and she gave the explanation that its original was a woman wearing a simple collar and light cloth So it is the reason why the partial shadow didn’t appear.

Finally, The passage posits that he often painted with a wood panel, but there is no his work which used the way which it was made of a variety wood’s piece, while the lecture argues that he used it with the fur collar to aggrandize its look and value of painting and the researcher found that the piece of wood, which used in his other works came from the same tree.
