In this set of material, the passage and the lecture offer two opposing points of view about whether the painting of a lady is one of Rembrandt's work of art or not. While the passage argues this painting cannot consider as one of this artist's works and provides three reasons of support, the lecture states that recently, thorough researches have been shown that this painting actually belongs to Rembrandt.
First, the passage declares owing to the fact that there is an inconsistent thing about the way that the woman in the painting dressed up, it could not be one of his works because he is known from his attention to what his subject wore. In contrast, the lecture throws down this notion by illustrating the fact that X-ray examination of the painting has disclosed the fact that fur color was added to the original painting many years after it was painted in order to make it more valuable by someone else.
Second, the article asserts Rembrandt was the master of painting light and shadows and these elements do not fit in this painting. On the other hand, the speaker refutes this statement by pointing out the point that the original dress that the woman wears in original painting causes this light and shadows which are relevant because the woman wears a white dress that instigates the face to be light.
Finally, the author claims that due to the fact that this painting is painted on a panel made of several pieces of wood glow together, it cannot be one of Rembrandt works because he did not paint on this kind of panel. In contradict, the speaker points out the fact that this panel was added to the painting at the same time the fur color added to it in order to make it more valuable. In addition, she states that the main panel of this work is originated from the same tree as one of his other work's panel( a self-portrait in which he wears a hat) comes from. It strongly indicates that the portrait has been discussing belongs to Rembrandt.
