TPO-03 - Integrated Writing Task Rembrandt is the most famous of the seventeenth-century Dutch painters. However, there are doubts whether some paintings attributed to Rembrandt were actually painted by him.

The page and the lecturer are discussing Rembrandt as a possible author of a seventeenth century painting.

The passage indicates that the details of the paintings are not coherent as they contradict each other and therefore, Rembrandt could not have made these mistakes and thus, he is not the author of the painting. However, the lecturer explains that experts found out that colors were added over the top modifying the aspect of the painting and these errors cannot be attributed to Rembrandt.

Secondly, the passage underlines another argument to refute Rembrandt as the painter. The light and shadow technics are not respected in the painting in a way that Rembrandt could not have make this mistake due to his skills and ability to paint. Nevertheless, the lecturer qualifies this theory saying that more than one layer of colors can be found on this painting. Indeed, a second layer of color as added to enlighten the painting.

Finally, the amount of wood panel cast doubt on the painting as Rembrandt was not used to paint on many wood panels for one painting as the passage shows. The lecturer challenges again this argument as the wood panels were added years after Rembrandt painted this woman in order to make the painting more valuable. Besides, the wood of the painting is the same one than another painting of Rembrandt which confirms that he is the author of the woman painting according to the lecturer.
