TPO-05 - Integrated Writing Task As early as the twelfth century A.D., the settlements of Chaco Canyon in New Mexico in the American Southwest were notable for their "great houses," massive stone buildings that contain hundreds of rooms and often stand th

Overall, even the reading and the lecture discuss about the “great houses”. Both present opposite theories about the Chaco’s settlements from evidence.
First of all, the reading passage affirms that Chaco structures were purely residential, with each housing hundreds of people. Moreover, it is also affirmed that Chaco houses appear strikingly similar as well-known as apartment buildings. The lecturer affirms that outside the structure was like those ones, but inside, for many people live there as affirmed in the passage, it must have fireplaces to daily cooking. In the largest house, there’s one fireplace to a total of ten families.
In the second place, the reading said that Chaco people were grain maize, which could be stored for long periods of time without spoiling and could serve as a long-lasting supply of food. But, the lecturer said that they have not access to a container or big containers.
Third and last, the author’s reading claims that archeologists identified an enormous mound formed by material’s pile. Excavations of the mound revealed deposits containing a surprisingly large number of broken pots. Even though, the lecturer affirms that it is not supported the idea. It is said that there is a number of materials such as sand and construction tools, so hardly related to ceremonies as affirmed in the passage.
