The reading passage and the lecture are both about the accuracy of Chevalier de Seingalt memoir, which is a valuable historical source. There accuracy ot the memoir is a controvercial question and was discussed by lots of people. In the reading passge it is claims that Chevalier exsegerated many facts of his life to make it more colorfut. On the other hand, the lecturer consider that facts discribed in memoir is thue.
Fist of all, there was an evidence, that Chevalier was a wealthy man. However, during his presence in Switherland he had to borrow money from the Swiss merchent and it seems controversial. The woman asserts that most of the money of Chevalier was in form of property and if he needed to use them he had to wait a couple of days to convert the property to money.
Secondly, the woman states that after every the conversation with Voltaire, Chevalier always was making small notes to fix the main ideas they have discussed. It contradicts with the critics opinion. They believed that Chevalier didn’t properly expressed the phrases and meaning of the conversation, because he wrote about this conversations a few year after his meetings with Voltaire.
To wrup up, the woman considaration about accuracy of Chevalier’s memoir contradicts with information in the reading passage and she isn’t not hezitate about its accuracy.
