TPO 08- Toward the end of his life, the Chevalier de Seingalt (1725-1798) wrote a long memoir recounting his life and adventures. The Chevalier was a somewhat controversial figure, but since he met many famous people, including kings and writers, his memoir has become a valuable historical source about European society in the eighteenth century. However, some critics have raised doubts about the accuracy of the memoir. They claim that the Chevalier distorted or invented many events in the memoir to make his life seem more exciting and glamorous than it really was.

The reading passage and lecture have conflicting opinions about whether or not the chevalier memoir of his life is correct. The article strongly postulates that some people thought he reformed or altered his biography because of desiring to like others. On the other hand, The listening adamantly delineates that it was actually so accurate in his situation due to the several compelling reasons.
First and foremost, According to the author of the excerpt that he described himself as a prosperous person to do something fancy but it wasn't persuasive because based on the proof he borrowed a lot of money from a Swiss merchant. Nonetheless, The professor offsets these points by declaring that he just sold his property then it took a few days to convert it into money which was had to give to trader also it didn't mean he was a poor one.
On top of this, the professor in the listening elaborates by bringing up the point that during the dialogue between well-known writer and chevalier, it was possible that he wrote everything in their discussion then he could remember all of the things during that time. Moreover, it had a piece of evidence that he noted a journal and paper at that time. these claims refute the writer's implications which about he couldn't recollect all of the things during the conversation without any records.
The text lastly insists that is wasn't reliable that he escaped from venice's prison because he has a lot of influential friends that might give bribe to help to get away from jail. The speaker in the lecture counters these indications by asserting that during that time he had been with people who were more potent than his supporters but those people still had been in there after he escaped. Furthermore, after that time, the prison of venice had to fix that room which he had been so it meant that he used the metal to made a hole in the ceiling to escape from it and it needed to repair.
