The passage claims that the hydrogen-based fuel cell engine capable to replace the internal-combustion engine. Furthermore, the author states that it is the most promising sources to powers the car further. The hydrogen-based fuel engine has several advantages over the petroleum or diesel engine. However, the professor refutes the idea because she believes that the the replacement not correct the problem and stated that the author way too optimistic. She exonerates three reasons to contradict the author claim.
First, the reading avers that the hydrogen is more easily available than the petroleum or diesel fuel because they are infinite source of energy unlike the natural resources. Whereas the lecturer states that, this is not always correct. Although the hydrogen exists in the extensive number, it cannot directly use. The hydrogen needs to transform into a liquid form. The process to produce the liquid form is very involved process and need an advance technology. Additionally, the process to storage the hydrogen is quite troublesome; they need to be store in minus 30-degree Celsius. Therefore, it is not very advantageous as stated by the passage.
Second, the author posits that the hydrogen may lessen the pollution. Regardless that the hydrogen based fuel engine only produces water, the factory that produce the liquid hydrogen doesn’t. The professor elaborate more about this topic by stated that the purification of hydrogen is facilitated by coal and oil. Even though the car not produce pollution, the factory does.
Lastly, the passage states that the hydrogen is economically competitive in comparison of the internal combustion one. The author support the idea by states that the hydrogen is twice efficient that the latter. However, the professor refutes the idea by claim that to make the hydrogen usable it is need platinum. Platinum is very expensive and rare material. It is used to help the hydrogen undergo the chemical reaction. Until now, the platinum is irreplaceable. That is why the hydrogen may not as efficient as the author claim.
