Both the article and the lecture discuss the causes of the reduction of sea otters from different perspectives. The article states that the decline of the otters is attributed to the sea pollution and provides three reasons to support this theory. Secondly, the readind posits that the nomber of other animals in the Alaskan caost have decreased and this strongly support the claims of sea pollution, and the orcas whis is the assumed predators ia actually prefer to feed on the larger animals. The professor, nonetheless, rebuts this point. She states that because of the human hunting of the large mammels , orcas is now depend on the small mammals as the basic nutritional source.
Finally, while the article posits that the uneven decline in the otter nubers can prove that the pollution is the cause, since the maximum decline is found in the areas of the high pollution, the professor challanged this piont. She statesthat this distribution depends on the accessibility of the location for the orcas. since it has a large size, it is not able to reach the rocky and the stony areas and, indeed, these are the areas where a large number of the mammals were found. And this again give a good prove that the orcas is the reason.
