The reading states that the most important explanation about sea otter declining is environmental pollution. The professor disagrees with this statement by saying that actually the most significant prompt of sea otters perishing is predators and she opposes each point that made by reading.
First, the reading claims that pollution is more likely the prime cause of sea otters declining than the predators because the sources of pollution are known and they are along the Alaskan coast. The professor refutes this point by saying that if the sea otters are declining because of pollution, they should be found dead in the locations, but no dead bodies were found. However, predators attack the sea otters as their prey and eat them all and no disposal will remain of them.
Second, The reading states that owing to the declining of other mammals, pollution is the main reason. Thus, pollution is killing all mammals including the sea otters. The professor opposes this statement by saying that human hunting orcas' food. Therefore, orcas prefer to hunt other type of animals as their food. Hence, they change their direction to sea otters and other mammals.
Finally, the reading states that where the pollution is present, the sea otters die in the location and vice versa. Hence, this explains the declining of sea otters in specific locations, which leaves an erratic pattern of sea otters declining. The professor does not agree with that, and she says since orcas are monumental and cannot swim in shallow or rocky waters, they only hunt mammals where the water is deep. This event explains why mammals and sea otters are declining in deep water locations and why they remain stable in the shallow water locations.
In conclusion, the professor proves that the reading statements are erroneous and inadequate.
