TPO-14 - Integrated Writing Task Every year, forest fires and severe stormscause a great deal of damage to forests in the northwestern United States. One way of dealing with the aftermath of these disasters is called salvage logging, which is the practice

The reading states that salvage logging which is a method to help forests to recover after disasters has many advantages, and provides three reasons of support. However, the lecturer explains that this method has downsides for the long run and refutes each of the author' reasons.
First of all, the reading claims that the remains of dead trees after fires, for instance, would occupy a huge place, so removing these left over would help other trees to thrive. However, the lecturer opposes this idea by saying that the dead trees help the soil and provide available elements when they decay.
Secondly, the article mentions that the dead trees would be a suitable place for the insects to reproduce. in addition, these insects could be harmful to the healthy trees. So this method would protect trees. However, the professor refutes this point by saying that the insects are not necessarily to be harm. Furthermore, the dead trees are a habitat for many other species like birds.
Thirdly, the reading establishes that salvage logging provides economic profits by using the remains of wood in industries. In addition, this manner offers extra jobs. However, the professor counters this point by saying that these advantages do not last long, they are temporary. In addition, in this method, you may need to use vehicles and a helicopter to make the job done which they are expensive.
