According to a given set of information, the author of the reading and the lecturer present contradictory statement as to whether the ways mentioned in the article can be effective to prevent the spread of cane toad in Australia. The reading supports this idea and provides three reasons. The speaker casts doubt on the claims made in the article and explains it is likely to be unsuccessful.

First, the article says that creating a huge obstacle like fence could avert the cane toads to move to the crucial part of Australia. The speaker rebuts this claim, mentioning that this fence may prevent from the moving of the big cane toads but the young toads and the eggs would move by streams or rivers to the other side of the fence. Thus, it is unlikely to impede their movement by a barrier.

Secondly, the author of the reading mentions that people could kill the cane toads by themselves. However, the lecturer acknowledges that a massive number of volunteers could destroy the cane toads but it would be dangerous for other species there. In fact, she states that these untrained people could harm the frogs that live there.

Finally, the article contends that injection a virus can decrease the advancement of cane toad's population. On the contrary, the speaker posits this idea. She mentions that doing this work in Australia could have terrible consequences for their native habitat in America. To be more specific, lots of animals transfer from Australia to America, so when a sick cane toad transfer to America, it can be dangerous for the whole ecosystem there and be deleterious for other species there.
