The reading and the lecturer are both about the cane toads that are native to Central and South America. The author of the reading states that the large population of toads could cause effects on small native animals, and mentions some measures should be taken to stop increasing growth of toads and provided three reasons for support. However, the lecturer explains that these measures were unsuccessful and probably may cause environmental damage.

First, the article conveys that national fence could be built to prevent the widespread of toads in Austria. On the other hand, the lecturer refutes this point by saying that this solution is totally ineffective because the toads could lay eggs on streams or rivers. Consequently, water can carry the eggs from one side to another side of rivers. Where the population might not get decreased.

Second, the text explains that volunteers can find toads and destroy them if the Australian government conducts a camp. Nevertheless, the lecture refutes this point by saying that native frogs can also be destroyed unknowingly because of volunteers. The frogs may be at serious risk when it was young.

Third, the article posits that the virus was invented by researchers to destroy the population of toads. However, the professor claims that the reptiles and amphibians would be transferred to other continents through pet collectors. Hence the native Central and South America reptiles may cause harm to reptiles in other continents. As a result, it may lead to damage of the whole ecosystem.
