TPO 17-integerated

In this set of materials, the reading passage states that the population of the birds is affected by some factors resulting from human population growth. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas unconvincing and provides some evidence to refute them all.
First, the author of the passage claims that growing human populations and settlements along with expanding urban areas have destroyed the birds' habitats. On the contrary, the lecturer declares that although urban development has reduced the number of some types of the birds, it has created better and larger habitat for the other types. Additionally, people are complaining about the increased number of birds in the cities in recent years. For example, the number of seagulls and pigeons have increased and consequently, they have attracted some birds such as hawks which prey pigeons and rodents.
Furthermore, it is mentioned in the reading passage that expansion of the agricultural lands and activities due to providing enough food for large human population has devastated the possible dwellings for birds. In contrast, the professor asserts that the lands used for agriculture is shrinking in the U.S. every year because more productive crops are going to be produced and there is no need to destroy wilderness areas.
Finally, the reading passage touches on the effects of the chemical pesticides on food chain and thereby, dwindling number of the birds. Conversely, the lecturer claims that although traditional pesticides had negative effect on the nature, people have recognized their harmful impacts and made two useful changes. First, new and much less toxic pests have been made. Second, new kind of pest resisting crops, which are genetically unattractive to the pest, have been produced. Therefore, the pesticides do not harm the birds anymore.
