TPO-17 - Integrated Writing Task In the past century, the steady growth of the human population and the corresponding increase in agriculture and pesticide use have caused much harm to wildlife in the United States, birds in particular. Unfortunately for b

Lecturer casts doubt on the idea indicated in the passage that human evolution is hamring wildlife, especially birds with following points: it decreases population, less land is used for agriculture and contaminates water/destroys food chain.

Although passage mentions that urban development is destroying natural habitat for birds, professor argues that only some species are in this danger. Acording to the example she mentioned, in urban developments residents only complained about the increasing population of birds. With this argument she clarified that some species shrink while other species increase.

Secondly, she disagrees with the point made in the passage that humans are expanding the agricultural area and damaging the natural habitat which makes birds homeless. As we cover more area with agriculture, less wilderness is left for natural habitats to live. Lecturer opposes that nowadays people started using less land on agrculture because new technology helped us to maximize the amout of food we receive per area. As a result, no more land will be destoyed to keep up with the rapidly increasing human population and agriculture land will soon decrease.

Lastly, lecturer casts doubt on the idea that ofchemical pesticides have negative effect on birds by destroying food chain. Passage indicates that chemicals used to kill pests in agriculture and home makes their way into the water causing fish and plants get toxicated. Birds have high chance of dying after eating these toxicated meals. On the other hand, lectuer argues that modern technology made pesticides less toxic and plants resistant to pests. Which means pesticides will no longer harm birds and food chain.
