The lecture and the reading both discuss three ways for surviving Torreya. While the reading states that the condition of Torreya become critical because the number of these trees become reduce. The lecture refutes this, saying that none of these three strategies provide ways for surviving Torreya.
First of all, the reading claims that by reestablishing Torreya in places which have a microclimate and are cooler and wettest than a dry regain such as north of Florida. However, the lecture argues that for one strategy, it is unlikely become successes because, by changing climate, it is difficult to survive. Besides, global warming increases the temperature and the Torreya need to survive in a wet temperature.
In addition, the reading makes the argument that by relocating Torreya in a place especially north and as some scientists suggest that further of the north we can help Torreya to more survive. The lecture counters this point by stating by considering this event when the black trees have moved by the people in the north after that these black trees quickly spread and became increased and led to kill other plants.
Lastly, the reading passage argues that the Torreya are maintained in a research center in order to save the Torreya and another thing, to get more research on Torreya to help survive. The lecture refutes this by pointing out that the scientists do not able to solve this issues and the Torreya should preserve relatively and genetically. According to the lecture, these trees do not have the capacity to survive in a long term.
