TPO-20 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, it had been common practice since the late 1960s no to suppress natural forest fires. The “let it burn” policy assumed that forest fire would burn themselves out quickly, without causing much dama

In the given set of material, the author talks about the lethal consequences of the “let it burn policy” and supports the replacement of this policy by another policy that is to extinguish forest fires as soon as it occurs. The passage indicates three kinds of damages that are caused by the old policy. However, the speaker in the follow-up material cast doubts on those reasons by providing evidences.

First, the passage states that the park’s fire leads to devastation of the vegetation and trees. In contrast, the lecturer opposes this point and explains that in reality this provides a opportunity to the smaller plants to grow. Moreover, there are several seeds that require very high temperature to germinate and this policy is suitable for the growth of such seeds. Hence, it is helpful in the overall development of the park’s vegetation and the park was colonized quickly after the fire of 1988.

Conversely, the professor refutes this idea and elaborates that just like plants there are various small animals that are not able to carry on because of the larger animals for example rabbits and hairs. But due to this policy these animals they get chance to live and thus there population is increased. Therefore, this idea is also proved by the lecturer invalid.

Third, the reading in the last depicts that it has negative effect on the economy of the local community. The speaker rebuts this statement and argues that in the year 1988 it was not the forest fire that affected the tourism and economy. Indeed, there were many other factors like less rainfall and unusually stronger winds that caused the economy downfall. But in the next year and each year after that a lot of tourists keep coming back to the park and
