TPO-22 - Integrated Writing Task

The reading explains that ethanol is not as good fuel as gasoline and provides three reasons of support. However, the lecturer claims that ethanol can be an alternative for gasoline and refutes each of the author's points.

First, the passage says that the use of ethanol causes a bad effect on global warming by emitting carbon dioxide. On the other hand, the lecturer refutes this point by stating that burning ethanol fuel doesn't add to global warming. According to the lecturer, plants absorb carbon dioxide when growing up, so the amount of carbon dioxide when burning them should not be concerned.

Second, the article claims that food for animals will decrease as we produce more amounts of ethanol. Nonetheless, the lecturer says that the resource of ethanol is gained from crops that farm animals don't eat. Therefore, the lecturer believes that food for such animals will not reduce.

Third, the reading states that ethanol fuel is much more expensive than gasoline without the financial help by governments. However, the lecturer opposes this point by claiming that ethanol fuel will be competitive in terms of money after the amount of use increases. The lecturer introduces the research that says if the use of ethanol fuel is three times as much as now, the price of it will be declined by forty percent.
