TPO-22 - Integrated Writing Task Ethanol fuel, made from plants such as corn and sugar cane, has been advocated by some people as an alternative to gasoline in the United States. However, many critics argue that ethanol is not a good replacement for gasol

Both reading and lecture take about using ethanol fuel instead of gasoline. The reading mentions the disadvantages of this process. While in contrary, the lecture stats the supporting reasons for using ethanol as fuel.
First, about global warming, the reading says that ethanol will cause a lot of environmental problems like global warming. Simply because ethanol releases carbon dioxide, which traps heat in the atmosphere. On the other hand, the lecture disagrees. It stats that ethanol made from plants. Plants counteract the process of releasing carbon dioxide, as they absorb it from the air in the growing process. As a result, ethanol will not cause global warming.
Second, the reading says that using ethanol as a fuel will decrease the number of plants available as animals food source. As it is mentioned, if the amount of ethanol used to satisfy only ten percent of the fuel use, more than sixty percent of corn will be diminished. Yet, the professor has another opinion. He says that ethanol can be gotten from cellulose, which is a part of the plant's cell wall. This part is not eaten by animals. This means that producing ethanol from cellulose, will not decrease the amount of animals food.
Third, the reading says that ethanol fuel will never compete with gasoline in price. Now they both about the same price because of the tax subsidies, the USA government give to ethanol producers. If the government decide to stop the subsidies, the price will increase. On the other hand, the lecture doesn't agree. It states that in the future ethanol producers will not need the subsidies. As the ethanol customer will increase, the production will increase as well, leading to a good decrease in the price.
