The reading and the lecture discuss Ethanol fuel from different perspectives. The article thinks that the Ethanol fuel cannot be an alternate to gasoline. However, the lecture casts doubt on the claims made in the article. He says that none of those reasons that the article has mentioned are convincing. The lecture believes that the Ethanol fuel is completely able to replace gasoline in the future.
First of all, the article points out that produce Ethanol fuel will damage the environment. This point is challenged by the lecture. He restates the fact that making Ethanol fuel do not increase pollution since the Ethanol made from plants, such as corns. Meanwhile corns absorb carbon dioxide from the air. Therefore, making Ethanol fuel will help to reduce the environmental problem.
Secondly, the article contends that manufacture Ethanol fuel will reduce amount of food of animals. The lecture rebuts this argument by saying that Ethanol fuel can produce from cellulose. Meanwhile, this part of plants that is not eaten by animals.
Finally, the article states that the cost of Ethanol fuel can never compete with gasoline. It is said that now the Ethanol fuel can compete other gasoline because it is supported by the governments in the form of tax subsidies. The lecture, on the other hand, opposes this point by saying that every product needs support from governments, not only the Ethanol fuel. He puts forth the idea that if people by much the Ethanol fuel, its price will reduce. Moreover, some studies show that in the future the Ethanol fuel's price will be three times greater than other gasoline and its cost will drop about forty percent.
