TPO-23 - Integrated Writing Task Populations of the yellow cedar, a species of tree that is common in northwestern North America, have been steadily declining for more than a century now, since about 1880. Scientists have advanced several hypotheses expla

The probable reasons of the northwestern North America yellow cedar declining are discussed in the reading passage and the professor contradict with each of hypothesis as following:
First, the cedar bark beetle introduce as the peasts for the yeloow cedar trees because, scientists have observed that beetles attack to the yellow cedars and cause them to die. But, the professor disaproves this hypothesis because he declares that the cedar trees have possioness chemicals which can kill the beetles as well.

According to the reading passage, bears can harm the yellow cedars by clawin the body of the tree in order to reach the sweet nucle of them, however the professor give an example about yellow cedars in the North America islands which their population has decline without the presence of bears. So it's not a good idea to suspect the bears as yellow cedars predators.

Finally the reading pasage acknowlege that the climate changing has the suffering effects on the yellow cedars during the hundred years. The cedar trees grow their roots late in the winter and the cold winter climate can freez their surface roots but the professor don't agree with this statement. He talk about trees in the high and low elevations which they have not suffered by the climate variations.
