TPO 24 Task 1

The reading and the lecture are both about the discovery of a 70-million-year-old fossil of T.rex dinosaur containing actual tissues instead of minerals. The author of the reading feels that scientists explored this animal's leg bone and found remaining parts of blood vessels, red blood cells, and collagen matrix. The lecturer challenges the claims made my the author. He is of the opinion that the outcomes of the experiment were skeptical.

To begin with, the argues that the fossil of leg bone included hollows in the bones where blood vessels were previously present. The article mentions that this result was the indication of a soft organic substance, which clearly presented the actual blood vessels. This specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. He claims during decomposition some bacteria colonizes the hollows. Additionally, he says that the tissue might have been the soft residue left by the bacteria.

Secondly, the writer suggests that microscopic trial of inner bone discovered the existence of spheres, which indicated the remaining part of red blood cells. In the article, it is said that presence of iron in the spheres also confirmed that red blood cells were traced. The lecturer, however, rebuts this by mentioning that reddish mineral could have been the cause of dark red color.

Finally, the author posts that collagen was found in the bone tissue. In contrast, the lecturer's position is that collagen can be found from the animals of 100 million years ago. He notes that the collagen might have been come from other source like human skin while researchers handling the bones.
