TPO 26-The treat of zebra mussel
The lecture and the passsage discuss the treat of some shellfishes for the fishes habbitat. Although the passage claims that the invasion of the shellfishes are a serious threaten for the fish populations, the speaker refutes this idea through a number of reasons which will be described in this report.
First of all, the passage points out that the human transportation was guilty for this invasion due to the reason that this shellfish can stick to bottom of the fish and transfer to another habitat, which it happend in early ninetheenth century and this shellfish were transported to eastern europe. The speaker, in contrast, rejects this by claiming that since in this century the knowledge has increased there are number of ways to control these shellfishes. By implanting this ways, the shellfishes cannot attach to the bottom of the ships. He also adds that the salt water would kill this animal; therefore they cannot transfer by the ships anymore and colonize all of the america.
Furthermore, unlike the passage which states that this creatures can be dominant in every habbitat and they have not serious predator, the speaker argues that it is true that this animal can be exlusive in a habbitat. However, this might happen at the beginning of their life due to the reason that after somewhile there would be no food and they should change their habbitat.
Finally, although the passage says that this animal eat planktons which are a vital food for the surviving of the fishes, the professor disagrees by mentioning that despite the fact that this animal has negative impacts, they provide some nutrients which are useful for the fishes. As a result, fishes would not confront with the depelation of the foods.
Through the reasons which have been described above, the passage claims are rejected by the professor.
