TPO-28 - Integrated Writing Task Robert E. Peary was a well-known adventurer and arctic explorer who in 1909 set out to reach the North Pole. When he returned from the expedition, he claimed to have reached the pole on April 7, 1909. This report made him

The writer demonstrates that Robert E.Peary have explored the North pole. He has three reasons to support his claim. On the other hand, the lecturer believes that there is no solid evidence that Peary has reached the North pole and the reasons in support of his claim are not convincing.
Firstly, the writer believes that a committee from the National Geographic Society that was instructed to conduct an investigation on Peary's records concluded that his accounts were persuasive and he infact reached the North pole. However, the speaker says that it is true that this committee has confirmed his exploration but the idea of the committee has not been objective. In fact, the committee members were the friends of Peary and the investigation done in two days is biased and it is not trust worthy.
Second, the writer believes that due to the same experience of Avey which lasted less than 37 days, it can prove that Peary also could have explored the North pole in 37 days. On the other hand, the speaker explains that Avey's experience was conducted in a period with more facilities in his trip like he was given food by airplane and the weather condition has been favourable. As a result, the two experiences are too different to support each other.
Finally, the writer demonstrates that the photographs taken by Peary can prove his claim. He believes the shadows in his photographs makes it possible to calculate the position of sun. However, the speaker believes that the photographs taken by that old fashioned camera can not prove anything. The camera has been so primary and the photographs has some shadows over time. They are somehow blured. Consequently, the shadows cannot be used to determine the position of the sun and the photographs cannot prove that the place in them is North pole.
