TPO-29 - Integrated Writing Task Large numbers of dinosaur fossils have been discovered in deposits on Alaska's North Slope, a region that today experiences an extremely cold, arctic climate. One hundred million years ago, when those dinosaurs were alive,

The reading and the speaker discuss the migration of Edmontosaurus from Alaska's North Slope to the south from discrepant perspectives. The speaker seems to negate all the ideas that the article has mentioned.
First of all, the author of the reading points out that Edmontosaurus eat plants. Meanwhile, in the winter there is no flora could grow in the north. Therefore, Edmontosaurus migrate to the North to survive. This point is challenged by the speaker. He restates the fact that long time ago the weather in the North Slope was warmer than today. The Sun was shining twenty -four hours per day in the summer. As a result, Edmontosaurus could feed on the abundance of dead plants in the winter. Edmontosaurus did not need to move to the North for food.
Secondly, the author of the reading contends that the skeleton of the Edmontosaurus supports that Edmontosaurus lived in herd. Thus the Edmontosaurus also migrate like many others animals live in herd, such as caribou and buffalo. The speaker rebuts this idea by saying that animals live in herd for various reasons. They could get extra protect from their predators. For example elks also live in herd, but they do not migrate. Therefore, the claim that the author of the reading has mentioned is not convincing in this case.
Finally, the author of the reading states that Edmontosaurus were physically capable of migrating long distances. They could run rapidly about five kilometers per hour for several weeks. The speaker, on the other hand, opposes this point by mentioning that young adults of the Edmontosaurus have not developed yet to run fast as the Edmontosauru adults. Therefore, they have to stay in the places that they were born during winter. Hence, the reason of running fast to migrate in Edmontosaurus is unreasonable.
