TPO 39

The lecture and the reading passage are both about extinction of various species, which allows dinosaur become the common species. While the passage states that there are several reasonable ideas about the elimination of many species. The lecture contradicts these claims and provides evidence to the contrary.

First of all, the author argues that sea level was fluctuating and drop steadily. Thus the animals, who lived there deteriorated. Conversely, the lecture brings up the idea that this reason is highly questionable due to the fact that although changing occurred, and the sea level went down, but most of the animal was capable to withstand this issues because the fluctuation was gradually. If the fluctuating was abrupt, it would be considered that sea level was effective for this problem.

Furthermore, the reading passage holds the view that tremendous effect of climate change. at the end of the Triassic period volcanic activity was enormous, and released huge amounts of sulfur dioxide. On the contrary, the professor plays up the idea that they believe SO2 cause the lower temperature, but it combined with atmospheric water, and appeared in the atmosphere when released by the volcanic activity.

Finally, the reading asserts that asteroids collide with earth, and display huge amount of soil. In contrast, the speaker dismisses this issue, proposing that this collision was about 2million years before the extinction. Therefore, it shows that they overestimated the effect of asteroids.
