The main idea of both the lecture and the passage is that some wild birds are injured in the urban cites because of colliding with glasses of buildings. Considering this, the author offers three solutions to deal with the problem. The professor, on the other hand, unequivocally challenges whatever contended in the passage by posing some problems.
First, both the professor and the author talk about one-way glasses. As claimed by the passage, if one-way glasses are used in the construction of buildings, the windows of buildings seem like barriers. As a result, birds change their directions because birds are not able to see behind the buildings. The lecturer, nevertheless, contradicts the author's view and explains that outside the buildings, one-way glasses reflect the light and work like mirrors, for example, the reflection of the sky is the sky. As a result, birds are not capable of distinguishing reflected light and fly through the buildings which may cause some injuries.
Second of all, both the lecture and passage discuss a colorful design on the glasses of buildings. The passage goes on to mention that colorful design on the glasses of windows may be another possible solution that avoids birds flying through buildings. In contrast, the lecturer explains that in these colorful designs, there are some windows through which people can see outsides. birds try to fly toward these opening parts on the buildings. Therefore, the size of openings should reduce in order to prevent birds to do so. but It doesn’t a suitable solution because inside the buildings becomes dark.
The last point discusses in the passage is that an artificial magnetic field is used in the building in order that birds change their directions to fly along with the earth’s magnetic field. However, the professor rejects this by declaring that birds can navigate by using earth magnetic field, but birds use this ability for long distances travel, for example, during their migration from cooler country to warmer one in winter. They use their eye for traveling from one side of the city to the other side. so that using an artificial magnetic field doesn’t seem a good solution.
