The reading passage and the lecture are both about injuries happen to wild birds as a result of glasses that used in building. While the passage states that there are several solutions to prevent these injuries the lecture contradicts these claims and provides evidence to the contrary.
First, the author argues that using on-way glass for building is an effective way because in this way the window seems to be a solid barrier and birds don’t fly through the glass. Conversely, the lecture brings up the idea that in this way the problem is remain because these glasses reflect like a mirror for birds. So, the reflection of trees and sky in those mirror make mistake for this animals.
Second, the passage holds the view that using colorful design for these ordinary glasses is useful. Birds can distinguish stripes and will change their route. In contrast, the professor underlines the fact that there is two problems with the solution. First of all, the birds think can ride through them and the second problem is that in this way the inside of the buildings become dark for people.
Furthermore, according to the reading passage using magnetic field equipment near buildings can be a helpful solution. These devices can help birds to find the right direction. However, the lecturer makes it clear that birds use magnetic field to navigation for long distance not for short distance. They use eye and light to navigate in short distance. So, this solution cannot prevent injuries of the birds.
