In 1957 a European silver coin was founded in the state of Maine in united state. The main topic of both the passage and the lecture is about whether this coin had been brought to North America by European explorers like Norse or not. In this respect, by giving three reasons, the author claims that this coin is just a historical fake. The lecturer, however, rebuts all three mentioned reasons in the text believing that the coin is genuine historical evidence and had been brought by Norse to America.

First of all, the author holds the view that as the Norse's settlement in America is far from the site which the coin has been found it is unlikely that there be a connection between the coin and Norse. The lecturer, however, refutes this notion by explaining that lots of other objects which come from far away are founded in that site and it has a convincing historical reason. Native American travel great distances within North America and they were interested in obtaining objects from far away places.

Secondly, The author avers that as no silver coins have been found at the Norse's settlement, they did not bring any coins to North America. The speaker, however, rebuts this assertion by mentioning to the fact that the Norse did not have a permanent settlement in North America and returned to Europe. Hence they packed up everything including silver coins and took them back to Europe.

Finally, the author believes that Norse explorer knew that their silver coins are useless for the native of North America hence they did not bring that coins to America. The speaker, conversely, contradicts with this notion, explaining that Norse knew that their silver coins are appealing for native American and they could use the coins to make jewelry. In fact, Norse used the coins as a mean for trading with Native American.
