The reading and the lecture are about a European silver coin which some people believe that they were carried by Norse who settled from Europe to North America. In the reading, the author provides three important reasons why some scholars think that the coin is not a real historical evidence. However, the professor disputes all of the assumptions made in the reading.

First of all, the place the coin was found was far away from where the Norse people lived is the argument of the writer. The lecturer proves it as a false theory. He avers that Norse people used to travel different place, and they liked to keep many interesting things with them. For example, as the professor says there were many different archeological things were found at that site which indicates that Norse people travel from North America to Canada. So, this coin has historical evidence.

Secondly, the writer claims that as no other coin was found at the site where Norse people settled so it must be a historical fake thing. On the other hand, the professor said that it does not mean that Norse people didn't carry silver coin. He also says that Norse people did not stay very long time at Canada and they might be taken everything along themselves when they left the country to their country, Europe.

Thirdly, the reading said that as the Norse people knew that there was no value of the silver coin to North Americans, they did not bring them. However. The professor refutes this point by saying that even though there was no monetary value of the silver coin that time, the Norse people knew that NA people like ostension things and they brought the silver coin to trade with North American people.
