The reading passage and the lecture have conflicting opinions about regardless of whether or not bee exist on Earth 200 years ago. The article strongly postulates that old fossil bee nest which have found 200 million year old fossilized tree is not strong evidence to prove bees existence. On the other hand, the listening adamantly delineates that argument that made by reading passage is not convincing for three main reasons.
First of all, according to the reading, there is no actual fossilized bee found that date to 200 hundred years ago. However, the lecturer disputes this point. He says that at that time no tree produce sticky liquid which is the main factor for preserve fossil, so that bees' fossil could not remain.
Secondly, the reading states that flowering plants which is closely evolved with bee first discovered on Earth 125 million years ago. Nevertheless, the lecture refutes this argument. He argues that it is possible to bee had eaten non-flowering plants before flowering plants appeared and after flower plants started to grown, bee adopted to eat them.
Finally, the reading claims that fossilized nest which is found in Arizona is similar with modern bee nest; but its detail is not well structured like modern nest. On the other hand, the lecturer thinks that it is already proven by chemical evidence which is waterproof. Moreover, he feels that this waterproof material is similar both ancient bee and modern bee that they can can emit.
In conclusion, although the reading and the lecture are both about ancient bees; existence, the three main points made in the reading passage are effectively challenged by the lecturer.
