The infrastructure and faculty are the core component of any university. It determines the strength and vision of the university. I disagree with the statement that it is more important for the universities to invest in infrastructure and physical plant than to invest in keeping the faculty satisfied. There is the following reason, will explain in the essay.
To begin with, the universities are the ocean of knowledge, it reflects the wisdom of rational thinking of a society or nation. The universities always play a major role in the success of many countries, for example, Oxford and Cambridge in Britain, Harvard and MIIT in the USA. For a university, it is important to maintain their infrastructure and faculty level, and there should be a balance in the budget allocation. However, faculty reflects the strength of their wisdom and it is always necessary to always satisfied them. The faculty, deliver their wisdom to the students and shape them into a great citizen of the country. Therefore, It is more important to the administration of the university to satisfy their faculty members. For example, the University of Queensland does not carry a great infrastructure, however, they spend a lot of budget to the welfare of their faculty.
Moreover, for a good teaching environment, it is necessary that the teacher should away from all the worries. The teacher should be away from financial as well administrative stress, only this way he can give his 100% to the university. For example, In the Melbourne University, most of the teachers are not happy with their salary and the kind of administrative stress they are facing. And few of them are planning to switch their job from a Melbourne university to another university, although Melbourne university has great infrastructure and spending lot of money in it. Due to the faculties' problem, lots of students are facing problems with their studies and the main motto of the university is also affected.
Finally, in a QS ranking of the best university, the faculty’s satisfaction is also a key component, which determines the ranking of the university. Therefore, it is necessary for the university to take care of their faculty and to invest more toward the welfare of faculty in comparing to the infrastructure.
In conclusion, faculties are more important than infrastructure and university should address this issue. In this way, they can maintain the quality of the education.
