In this set of materials, the reading passage states that medical record has been saved and stored on a paper base, but the reading suggested that doctors have several benefits by saving the medical record of patients base on the electronic database. On the other hand, the listening section brings into question the reading point but providing different reasons (and examples).

First, the reading indicates that electronic records may reduce the cost of storage and transferring medical records, so doctors do not need a lot of paper for saving data and they only need a significant amount of storage space. In contrast, the lecturer opposes this view by mentioning that doctors need to save previous data of patients for emergencies. So, they need to get back up from paper-based data and save them. In this situation, doctors not only must pay money for saving paper base data but also must pay money for saving electronic base data.

Furthermore, the reading indicates that electronic medical records can reduce medical errors because having bad handwriting or illegible make some errors when people want to read them, but by electronic medical records this error may be eliminated; conversely, what the professor believes is different. She points out that doctors adapting by paper base data, and when they want to examine patients, they use paper for visiting. In this situation, they use staffs for changing paper base data to electronic base data; indeed, staffs may make some handwriting errors when they read it.

Finally, according to the reading, electronic medical records make benefit situations for people who want to search for patients, and they do not need to consume many times for gathering data. However, the professor believes that people must follow strict rules when they want to access or use the medical records. In addition, electronic records also have very strict rules for saving data on the electronic base. Furthermore, when researchers want to use medical records, they must follow strict rules such as permitting patients. And most of them are block their medical data.
