The reading claims that paleontologists have long wondered whether Pterosaurs were not capable of powered flight or only able to glide and provides three reasons of supports. However, the professor find all of supporting reasons dubious and provide some evidence that shows they may were capable to flight.
The reading passage argues that modern reptiles are cold blooded, consequently ancient reptiles were cold blooded and cold blood animals typically have slow metabolism and unable to produce a of energy. On contrary, the lecturer point out that some fossils have been founded which shows that Pterosaurs were not cold blood. She stats that fossils had dense hair. According to professor, warm-blooded animals have dense hair to protect them from cold weather Therefore, Pterosaurs were able to produce the energy which power flight required.
Furthermore, article bring the idea that, Pterosaurs were so heavy that they would not have been able to be keep airborne by powered flight. Conversely, the speaker states that Pterosaurs bones were hallow and this reduce animal’s weight. So, she refute this idea that Pterosaurs were not able to fly because of their weight.
Finally, the reading hold the view that Pterosaurs did not have big, powerful muscles in their back legs to launch themselves into the air. In contrast, the professor dismiss this issue due to the fact that, Pterosaurs had four legs. Birds have two legs to run and jump while Pterosaurs had four large legs that enable them to run enough and jump to the air.
