TPO-47 - Integrated Writing Task Pterosaurs were an ancient group of winged reptiles that lived alongside the dinosaurs. Many pterosaurs were very large, some as large as a giraffe and with a wingspan of over 12 meters. Paleontologists have long wondered

The reading passage explores the issue that pterosaurs are not capable of powered flight. The professor's lecture deals with the same issue. However, she thinks that pterosaurs are able to use powered flight, which contradicts what the reading states. And in the lecture, she uses three specific points to support her idea.

First, even though the reading passage suggest that pterosaurs can not produce enough energy to support the need of flight, since they are cold-blood animals with slow metabolism. The professor argues in the lecture that pterosaurs are warm-blood animals, because they have dense hair around their body. Which means pterosaurs can generate enough energy needed to fly. Obviously, the professor's argument disproves its counterpart.

Moreover, contrary to the statement in the reading passage that pterosaurs are probably too heavy to flap their wings fast enough to fly. The professor contents that pterosaurs are unusually light weight because of their hollow bones, even their frame is big, they are still able to flap their wings for flight.

Finally, the reading passage says that large pterosaurs can not use their weak back legs to take off from the ground. But the professor asserts that pterosaurs use four legs instead of only back legs to run and jump, so that pterosaurs are able to take off from the ground with their four legs.
