Many frogs species around the world have declined in number or gone extinct in last years. The reading passage indicates some reasons for declining frog population and offeres some method for solving the problem. The lecturer, nonetheless, throws doubts on all method and reasons presented in the reading passage and offers some counterclaims to refute them all.
First, the author argues that using pesticides are making this problem. The reading passage claims that pesticides kill insects and threates frog population and prohibiting pesticides is the best way to solve this problem. Conversely, the lecturer claims that prohibiting pesticides is not equnomically fair. Because farmers use pesticides to decrease crop losses and prohibiting pesticides will make lots of problem for farmers in their economy.
Furthermore, the reading passage highlights that skin fungus is another reason that causes problem for frogs. Infected frogs die because of dehydration. The reading passage thinks that researchers can protect frogs by using new treatments. In contrast, The speaker thinks that new treatment must applied indivisually and it would be so hard and expensive. Additionally, she claims that treatment doesn't pass to off-springs and researchers need to apply treatments on the next generation again.
Finally, the author brings up the idea that human activities cause declining in frog population. Because human are draining wetlands and rivers by excessive use of water. Wetlands are the main habitats of frogs. The professor, on the contary, thinks that global warming is the biggest threat for this problem. It is unlikely that excessive use of water causes this problem.
