The reading and the lecturer both are about the possibility of sending humans to Mars. The reading states several problems in this regard. However, the lecturer casts doubts on the problems mentioned in the reading by providing three strong reasons.

Firstly, the reading material says that traveling to Mars takes at least 2 years; thus, humans will not be able to carry enough food supply, oxygen, and water to Mars. In contrast, the professor rejects this idea. She believes that astronauts can use hydroponics technique in order to plant vegetables in water instead of soil. Also, they can use this technique to transform carbon dioxide into oxygen for breathing. Therefore, they will not have such problems.

Secondly, the author claims that astronauts face a lot of problems in zero-gravity condition on Mars such as reducing muscle mass and bone capacity. Nevertheless, the lecturer challenges this point. She states that astronauts spend several months in space stations, before; therefore, they learned how to deal with these problems by doing some techniques such as specific exercises. Hence, they will not have problems with this matter.

Finally, the reading believes that space radiation on Mars would have harmful effects on humans due to the absence of the magnetic field and creating a shield for spacecraft would increase its weight. Nonetheless. the professor refutes this problem. She claims that apace radiation does not present all the time. This occurs occasionally; thus, astronauts can monitor radiations and use an unshielded spacecraft; but when they see radiations, use a shield. Hence, the weight of the spacecraft would not be a problem.
