The reading and lecture are both discusses the chances of sending humans to Marc in future. Whereas the author of the reading states that it would be really difficult to send human on Marc as scientists may have to face some problems. On the other hand, lecturer states that even though trip to March is little challenging, scientist have found solution for those problems. Thus, the speaker cast doubt on the main idea made in the reading section by providing three reasons.
First of all, according to the reading, round-trip to Marc will take at least two long years which may be create problems for the scientist because cargo capacity of space is limited. Hence it would not be possible to load food, water and oxygen source in the cargo for two years. However, the lecturer disputes this point. She says that astronauts can use hydroponics technique in which they could be able to cultivate plant in the spacecraft and use it for food purpose. Furthermore, She mentions that this plant have ability to purify wastewater which they can use as a drinking water source. Also, plant releases oxygen and absorbs carbon dioxide, which also help them to inhale fresh air.
Secondly, the writer contends that scientist have to stay in zero-gravity environments for long time which may create serious health issues such as decreased muscle mass and lower bone density. The lecturer, however, rebuts this by asserting that astronauts can prevent the negative impact of gravity on body mass and bone by doing everyday exercises. She elaborated by mentioning that they can avoid a damage of bone by regular intake of vitamins and nutrition.
Finally, it is stated in the article that astronauts will be exposed to dangerous radiation emitted by Sun and constructing a shield to protect this radiation is impossible at current scenario. The speaker, on the other hand, posits that solar radiation are occasionally released when it is active. She added that space graft can be equipped with special instruments which have an ability to monitor space radiations. Additionally, small shelter which can protect astronauts from dangerous radiations. As a result, they can protect themselves in protective shields, whenever the instruments give an alert about the solar radiation.
