The main idea of both the lecture and the passage is whether it is a practical idea to sending some people to asteroids instead of moon or mars or not. Considering this, the author supports this idea by giving some reasons. The professor, on the other hand, unequivocally challenges whatever contended in the reading by posing some potential problems.

First, both the lecturer and the author talk about low gravity on asteroids. As claimed by the passage, the lower the gravity on the asteroid, the easier landing and take-off are. The lecturer, nevertheless, contradicts the author's view and explains that low gravity on asteroid facilitates landing and take-off, but it causes some health problems for astronauts such as losing muscle mass and lowering bone density. astronauts who spend a short time in the spacecraft suffer from these problems. In such a long trip to an asteroid, these problems may aggravate. As a result, the disadvantage of low gravity outweighs the advantage of it.

Second of all, both the lecture and the reading discuss precious materials on asteroids. The passage goes on to mentions that the profit of mining valuable elements such as gold can compensate for the expanses of the trip. In contrast, the professor explains that costs of mining on asteroids and traveling back materials to the earth can be high. Additionally, if some large sources for precious elements were found, the demand in market would be decreased which lead to lower the price

The last point discussed in the passage is that asteroids sometimes come close to the earth even nearer than the moon so that traveling to them is convenient. However, the professor rejects this by declaring that it is right that asteroids are near to the earth in some parts of their orbits. but they do not stay at one point and they may go farther than the mars. Therefore, although getting to asteroids is easy, getting back from them is hard.
